Kerala: CPI(M) won’t relook decision to drop Shailaja from Cabinet

K K Shailaja became popular among the public for her stellar work as the state health minister

Amid the heightened social media campaign to induct K K Shailaja into the new cabinet, the CPI(M) on Wednesday said the dropping of the popular health minister was a “political and organisational” decision of the party and there would not be any relook into it.

Asked about the trending campaigns on the social media platforms to bring back ‘Shailaja Teacher’, as she is fondly being called, CPI(M)’s state acting secretary A Vijayaraghavan said it did not come to his notice. “The party has to take into account its political and organisational interests. As a ruling party, it has to give due consideration to protect the interest of the state also. It arrives at such decisions after serious contemplation.”

According to reports, former Malayalam journalist Veena George will lead the health ministry for the new term. Meanwhile, Shailaja has been chosen as the CPI(M)’s Whip, reported the NewsMinute.

21 ministers in new cabinet

The second Vijayan government will have a 21-member cabinet with a handful of first-time legislators and three women members, the highest in recent time. Barring the CM, K Krishnankutty of JD(S) and A K Saseendran of NCP, the water resources and transport ministers, respectively in the previous LDF government, are the only old faces in the new cabinet.
