India logs 1.2 lakh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, lowest since April 7

India on Saturday logged 1,20,529 new Covid-19 infections in 24 hours, the lowest since April 7. During the same time, 3,380 more people succumbed to the pandemic. The fatalities witnessed a spike, crossing the 3,000 mark on Saturday once again after recording over 2,000 deaths in the last two days. On April 7, India recorded 1,26,789 cases. Over the last few days, India has seen over one lakh infections every 24 hours, while the deaths have also remained above the 3,000 mark.


Goa government seeks data



The Goa education department on Saturday directed its affiliated academic institutes in the state to provide information about the students, who have lost either one or both their parents due to Covid-19. Director of education, DR Bhagat, issued a circular, asking the institutes to compile data of such students and submit it to the department by Monday. “The service providers might find it challenging to support children in institutions with psychosocial and mental health care needs. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in New Delhi has asked the department to submit the information to be uploaded on the ‘Baal Swaraj Portal’,” the circular said.


AIIMS Divyang demands vax

The Divyang Federation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi demanded immediate attention on some important issues, including vaccination for all dependants of staff in the 18-44 age group, and compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of those who fell prey to Covid-19 while serving in the hospital during the second wave.

Lockdown eases in NCR

The lockdown will continue in Delhi, but with certain relaxations. Shops and malls will be allowed to open on an odd-even basis from 10 am to 8 pm, from Monday, said Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi Metro will restart services with 50 per cent capacity from Monday.

Appoint a team to build AIIMS in TN: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint a dedicated team of officials with financial and administrative powers for the construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai. Stalin in a letter to Modi pointed out that the foundation stone for the AIIMS was laid by him on January 27, 2019 and till now only a compound wall has been erected around the land that has been allotted for the project by the state government.

Congress General secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday once again slammed the government for declaring early victory over Covid, asking is the Prime Minister’s new residence and new Parliament building more important than health facilities? Gandhi, who is Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh said, “The Prime Minister was engaged in fake publicity of victory over Covid-19 when people of the country faced acute shortage of oxygen, ICUs, ventilators and hospital beds.”
