Schools in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Rajasthan resumed in-person classes as part of the phase-wise reopening on Wednesday.

Rajasthan and Delhi reopened schools for students of Std IX to Std XII. In Delhi, some institutions, however, chose to wait-and-watch for a few weeks.
The UP administration has allowed physical classes for Std I-Std V students, however, the attendance was very less. “Only those students were allowed to come whose parents filled a consent form. In some classes of over 50 students, only one or two parents have given consent. Online classes are continuing as per the schedule, as parents are apprehensive for their kids’ safety,” a teacher of St Francis College in Lucknow said.

Classes for students of Std VI to Std XII in UP were started in the second half of August.
Schools, barring residential government institutions, resumed offline classes in Telangana, while colleges also resumed in the state.
In Madhya Pradesh, schools for Std VI to Std XII started regular physical sessions with 50 per cent cap on attendance, and students expressed happiness on returning to their educational institutions.
The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday issued an order permitting private and government schools to reopen for Std VI to Std XI with 50 per cent attendance from Thursday. Schools had already resumed for Standards I to V, VIII, X and XII from August 1.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting with senior ministry officials on Wednesday on the status of the reopening of schools across the country and the roadmap for vaccinating their staff.
The Centre on Wednesday morning recorded a rise in daily infections at 41,965 and active cases increased to 3,78,181. A total of 460 fatalities were confirmed.
‘Bengal thinking of vaccinating kids’
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said the government is thinking whether children will be required to be vaccinated in view of the anticipated third wave. If required the government will carry out inoculation programmes for children similar to the pulse polio drive, she said.
32 college students infected in K’taka
As many as 32 students have tested positive for COVID-19 in a college in Karnataka’s Kolar KGF College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Wednesday. “All of them are Kerala returnees. I will visit the college and take action against the management.” He added that COVID-19 has been brought under control to 700-800 cases per day from as high as 50,000 cases per day while adding that the government has worked hard to mitigate the pandemic.
