Fire breaks out at Gandhi Nagar market, 21 fire tenders at spot

New Delhi [India]: A major fire broke out at Gandhi Nagar market in New Delhi on Tuesday morning. At least 21 fire tenders have reached the spot and made efforts to douse the flame. No loss of life or injuries were reported. 


Gandhi Nagar market situated in Shahdara area of New Delhi is one of Asia's largest textile market. It is believed that the market has a footfall of around 10,000 to 20,000 people every day.



On August 6, six people died while 11 were injured in a massive blaze that broke out at a residential building in New Delhi. According to the Delhi Fire Service, the blaze started at 2.21 a.m. in a four-storey building in Zakir Nagar area near the Jamia Millia Islamia University. Most of the injured were those who tried to jump off to safety. "Initially five fire tenders were rushed to the spot, later more were sent to douse the flames," Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg said.

The fire was finally brought under control at 5.30 a.m. Around seven cars and eight motorcycles were also gutted in the fire.
