Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said on Wednesday that a significant initiative is underway to equip more than 40 police stations in Jammu and Kashmir with state-of-the-art gadgets and weaponry as part of Operation Capacity Building. The objective is to root out any remnants of terrorism in their respective areas, he told media in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Addressing the passing out cum attestation parade in the Sheeri area, Singh said, "We have initiated Operation Capacity Building and, so far, have enhanced the capabilities of 21 police stations by providing them with advanced equipment and facilities to effectively address the lingering terrorism issues." He further stated that an additional 22 police stations will soon be incorporated into the operation to ensure the complete “eradication of terrorism” from their regions.

DGP Singh paid tribute to the 1601 policemen who were killed in the past three decades. He also mentioned that this year, 14,000 new policemen were trained, with 1800 of them receiving specialized commando training, and these commandos have been deployed in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, 2500 new police officers have completed Cyber Crime Training and are actively contributing to building a safer society. Despite the current peaceful situation in Kashmir, the DGP acknowledged that challenges persist. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir police force remains committed to bravely addressing any challenges and ensuring that peace becomes a permanent feature in the region.

"Just recently, 27 officers from the Kashmir Police Service (KPS) were inducted into the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS). This marks a significant milestone as it's the highest number of KPS officers to be inducted into the IPS at once."

Highlighting the investment in the welfare of police personnel and their families, DGP Singh mentioned that this year, Rs 62 crore has been allocated for their well-being. Moreover, he mentioned an additional allocation of Rs 2.25 crore for Special Police Officers (SPOs). Efforts have been made to smoothen the promotions process within the police department, with the support of the Home Secretary and the issuance of promotions to approximately 4,000 individuals.
