Sri Aurobindo: The nationalist, philosopher, poet and spiritual reformer, who was also part of the Independence movement, was born on August 15, 1872 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Kolkata).
Adnan Sami: The London-born Pakistani singer, who was given Indian citizenship earlier this year, was born on August 15, 1971. A child prodigy, Sami has been playing the piano since he was five, and composed his first music piece when he was nine.
Ustad Amir Khan: One of the countries best-known Indian classical vocalists, he was born on August 15, 1912. The founder of the Indore Gharana, Ustad Amir Khan is considered among the most influential figures in Hindustani classical music.
