The number of daily Covid-19 cases rise for the second day, with the Union health ministry adding 13,091 new ones on Thursday. The ministry had confirmed 11,466 new infections on Wednesday, up from 10,126 on Tuesday. However, the active cases declined to 1,38,556, and the fresh fatalities were recorded at 340, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am on Thursday.


Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said cautioned people against letting the guard down before the pandemic is completely over. He requested the states to enhance the vaccination coverage and motivate over 12 crore beneficiaries who are due for their second dose to take it.


79% have got single shot


The minister stated that at present 79 per cent of the adult population has got the first dose of vaccine and 38 per cent has also received the second dose.

Delta the main concern

The Indian Sars-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) said that Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to be the main variant of concern and other variants of interest or concern are now negligible in sequencing data from India. In India, it said, Delta (B.1.617.2 and AY.x) continues to be the main variant of concern.Agencies
