India logged 37,875 fresh novel Coronavirus infections, while the active cases further declined to 3,91,256, according to the Union health ministry’s data updated on Wednesday morning. The active cases, which decreased by 1,608 in a span of 24 hours, comprise 1.18 per cent of the total infections. The death toll climbed to 4,41,411 with 369 fresh fatalities.

Can’t order home vax: SC

Looking at the diverse conditions of the country, door-to-door Covid-19 vaccination is not feasible, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday. A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud, Vikram Nath and Hima Kohli refused to entertain a plea of a lawyers’ body. The petition sought direction to the Centre and all states for door-to-door vaccination of less privileged, disabled, weaker sections of society, as they face difficulty in registering themselves on the CoWIN portal. “This is a matter of governance; we cannot just scrap the existing policy,” it added. The SC directed the petitioner to approach the competent authority at the health ministry with its suggestions.

Cases among kids surge

The Odisha government has issued a fresh guideline calling for stricter implementation of Covid-19 norms in schools amid a surge in infection among children. Of the 762 new patients in the state, 102 are in the 0-18 age group.

The fresh guideline was issued on Tuesday after some children and teachers tested positive for the infection in Dhenkanal and Bargarh districts. It said that students, teachers and other staffers have to mandatorily wear masks to enter the schools where classes are being held for students of standards 9, 10 and 12.

While both offline and online classes will continue, no student must be forced to attend the physical classes, it added.
