India logs 35,178 new infections and 440 fatalities in a span of 24 hours

India added 35,178 new Coronavirus infections and 440 fatalities, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday morning.
The active cases continued to decline and was recorded at 3,67,415, the lowest in 148 days, the ministry said. A reduction of 2,431 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.96 per cent. It has been less than three per cent for the last 23 days.The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.95 per cent. It has been below three per cent for the last 54 days, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,14,85,923, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34 per cent, the data stated.
Meanwhile, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana on Wednesday said that physical hearing in the Supreme Court may resume within the next 10 days. The SC has been holding proceedings virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic since March last year.
The bench said that in virtual hearing, sometimes they are unable to see or hear lawyers arguing the matter. “We may hear physically after one week or 10 days,” the CJI observed.
