Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, acknowledging his visionary contributions to India. She emphasized Nehru's role as a nation-builder, highlighting his establishment of numerous educational, scientific, research, and industrial institutions that laid the foundation for modern India.

"Tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, who was a visionary and father of hundreds of educational, scientific, research, and industrial institutions and projects that could see far into the future," Priyanka Gandhi posted on social media platform X.

"He was the nation-builder who laid the strong foundation of modern India by overcoming hunger, unemployment and disease through advanced agriculture and big industry programmes," she added.

Priyanka Gandhi praised Nehru's efforts in overcoming challenges such as hunger, unemployment, and disease through advanced agriculture and industrial programs. She credited him as a universally loved leader who shaped India's foreign policy on the world stage.

"Pandit Nehru's democratic ideals, thoughts and efforts paved the way for freedom, equality, justice and progress. India has become stronger by following the path shown by you," she said.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also paid tribute to Nehru on his birth anniversary. Children's Day is celebrated on November 14 in India, marking Nehru's birthday, and various activities are organized to commemorate the occasion.

Earlier today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to former PM Nehru, saying that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is a thought of "freedom, progress, and justice."

"Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is a thought--of freedom, progress, and justice. Mother India today needs these values of 'Jawahar of Hind', like an ideology, in every heart," Rahul Gandhi posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. He breathed his last on May 27, 1964. He became the Prime Minister on August 15, 1947. (With inputs from agencies)
