The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that its plan for the assessment criteria for Class 12 students will be factored on Class 10 and Class 11 results.

About 40 per cent of the marks will be based on Class 12 pre-board, 30 per cent on Class 10 performance and rest 30 per cent on Class 11 performance, CBSE told the apex court while submitting its assessment criteria.

For Class 10 and Class 11, the marks in the best of three from five papers in term examinations will be considered.

“For Class 12, the marks obtained in the unit, term, and practical exams will be taken into account,” the Centre told the SC.

Attorney General KK Venugopal said that the declaration of results will be done by July 31, 2021.

He also said that students who are not satisfied with the marks/grading through the present mechanism can do better or improve their marks by appearing in physical examinations, as Covid-19 situation gets better or as the situation normalises or as the institutions think.

The CBSE said a result committee under the principal of the school will be formed in each school comprising of two senior-most PGT from the same school and two PGT from neighbouring schools.

The committee has been given the liberty to prepare the result by following the policy.

The evaluation criteria has been prepared on the basis of the report of the 12-member committee of experts. The committee was formed to prepare the formula for giving results and marks for class 12 students. The committee consists of 12 persons, including Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education and senior IAS officer Vipin Kumar.

The government had cancelled the 12th board examinations on June 1 due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
