Nearly 103 people have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a party at their apartment complex in Bommanahalli, Bangalore, earlier this month, according to reports. Only one of them has been hospitalised, the Indian Express reported on Tuesday.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad told the IE that 96 of the 103 COVID-19 patients are aged above 60. Most residents of SNN lake view apartment in Bommanahalli had attended the party on February 4, and some of them learnt about having contracted the virus on February 10.
“Most are asymptomatic and none of them so far had any travel history. We have declared a containment zone as per the protocol and groceries and daily essentials are supplied to the residents in the apartment,” he added. According to a report by The NewsMinute, the BBMP planned to test 200 more residents on Tuesday.
Four detected with South Africa variant
For the first time in India, four people were detected with the South Africa strain of SARS-CoV-2, the Centre said on Tuesday. The four people returned in January, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said. One person has tested positive for the Brazil strain upon arrival in the February first week. All travellers and contacts have been tested and quarantined.
