The All India Democratic Woman's Association (AIDWA) has sought a CB-CID probe into the sexual assault of a Dalit scholar at IIT-Madras. The woman's organisation in a statement on Sunday said that there were several irregularities in the police probe that had taken place on the complaint filed by the Dalit woman scholar.

The AIDWA in the statement said that even though the victim had mentioned sexual assault by the accused in the complaint lodged in 2021, the FIR did not include sections for rape and SC/ST Act even after the victim being a Dalit scholar.

The victim has in her complaint with the Mylapore police said that she was mentally and physically harassed by her colleague at IIT-Madras, Kingshuk Debsharma ever since she joined the institution in 2016. In the complaint, the woman scholar also said that while on a study tour to Coorg, she was sexually abused and was disrobed and filmed in the laboratory.

The woman's organisation has called for action against the concerned police officer for delaying the investigation.

However, Mylapore Assistant Commissioner, Gouthaman said that police investigation is being conducted and that material evidence is yet to be collected as the victim has alleged abuse since 2016.
