Schools for juniors after festivals: Karnataka

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Sunday said a decision regarding reopening of schools for Std I to Std V in the state will be taken after the festival season. He also said the state government has reopened educational institutions not in a “hurry” but in a phased manner after discussion with parents and experts.

First higher education institutions was reopened, then pre-university and later Std IX-XII and Std VI-VIII, Sudhakar told reporters in Delhi after meeting Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

“We will take a decision shortly after the festival season. Let the Dussehra vacation get over,” he said. Asked about a school in Bengaluru being shut after children tested COVID-19 positive, he said the government is aware of it. But that one incident cannot determine whether to reopen schools for Std I-V, Sudhakar said.

On reopening of educational institutions, Sudhakar said, “We did not take decisions in hurry. Even now if we see children are facing problems, then we will immediately take back our decision.”

Zydus Cadila proposes Rs 1,900 for 3-dose vaccine

Zydus Cadila is learnt to have proposed a price of Rs 1,900 for its three-dose COVID-19 vaccine, ZyCov-D, that can be given to those above 12 years of age. However, the Centre is negotiating for a reduction in price and a final decision is likely to be taken this week, sources told PTI. A source said ZyCoV-D has to be priced differently than Covaxin and Covishield as there is a needle-free jet injector used for administering the vaccine that costs Rs 30,000. That jet injector can be used for administering around 20,000 doses. The vaccine is to be given on days zero, 28 and 56.
