Youth enraged at 'moral policing'

The recent attack on women in a pub in Mangalore, by the activists of right wing Hindu outfit Sri Ram Sene, has left the young Indians shocked and outraged. Bloggers have strongly condemned and criticized the horrific and inhumane act of the so-called moral police.
A comment on a blog said, "The barbaric hoodlums who chose to attack a pub last weekend in Mangalore is proof of the intolerant and uncouth mindset of these bunch of goons bearing allegiance to a certain 'Sri Ram Sena. Their ideology was demonstrated by spewing venom on innocent women and physically assaulting them in the most dastardly manner in full public view."
"It is a fashion in modern times for small groups of such disgruntled elements to demonstrate their brand of terror on people without any punishment. From pulling down theatres showing movies, to shattering shops on Valentine's day to hounding people in buses and trains and wherever they can, such groups seem to be emboldened by the fact that the state governments have no will to curb or clamp down their actions," the blogger added.
Another blogger,u00a0Prashanth Isaac,u00a0opines that Karnataka, which had a strong image of peace and tolerance unfortunately, was moving towards a different direction due to such incidents.
"The recent incident in Mangalore is not an isolated case. Few weeks ago a party held at a private residence on the outskirts of Bangalore was raided by members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike(KRV). And another organisation Karnataka Yuva Vedike ransacked a pub in a hotel in Bangalore saying "pub culture" is not part of Indian tradition. And not to forget the attacks on churches and prayer halls around Mangalore on the heels of the Communal Violence in Orissa," the blogger said.
A bloggeru00a0from Mangalore feels that these 'moral cops' are tarring the image of their district.u00a0 "The brutal incident has hit the headlines asserting the 'intolerant image' of this coastal district. People detest the unruly behaviour of such outfits. The district has now become unsafe for women, minorities and weaker sections due to some fanatic elements.
If at all this mindless attack by Sri Ram Sene in Mangalore served one purpose, it is this: expose the hypocricy of such fanatics and also inability of the BJP to rule," the blogger said.
