It's popularly known as the Nigerian scam, but now security agencies are concerned that Indian youngsters, lured by the idea of making some easy moolah, are turning to e-mail fraud and other forms of cyber crime. In fact, a team of Mumbai police recently arrived in Noida to investigate certain cases reported by residents of the financial capital. And there are indications that some recent college pass-outs from the NCR township may be involved.u00a0
In one particular case, police have received complaints where a Mumbaikar was duped in the name of lottery and the amount was withdrawn from a bank in Noida. Mumbai police is not sharing much information with Noida cops but a few youngsters from sector 20 have been detained and they have reportedly given vital information about the kingpin.u00a0 According to sources these criminals are youngsters who have studied in nearby colleges and are living in rented apartments in Noida.u00a0u00a0u00a0
Mumbai police has also conducted a few raids in sector 20 but so far nothing concrete has come out. Cops are closely monitoring bank transactions and online movements pertaining to the email. According to Noida police, Mumbai cops are tight-lipped over the issue, but are suspecting that a young graduate could be the mastermind.
