Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray yesterday took Prime Minister Narendra Modi head-on and advised him to first tackle the Indo-Pak border issue, rather than campaign in the state for the upcoming assembly elections. Thackeray was speaking at a public rally at Bhosari, which is considered to be the fortress of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

While slamming Modi, Thackeray said, “Pakistan has opened fire at the border. However, the PM and his cabinet ministers are roaming around in the state for campaigning. I would like to advice the PM and his cabinet to take care of the nation. We are able to take care of Maharashtra.”

Thackeray did not miss a single opportunity to lash out at Modi. “There was a huge contribution by Shiv Sainiks in making Modi the PM of the nation. But, as soon as the BJP received a majority at the Centre, the party broke the 25- year-old alliance with us for 34 seats,” Thackeray said. The Sena chief held four rallies in Junnar taluka, Bhosari and Sanghvi in Pimpri-Chinchwad area and in Pune.

He added that he has no hatred for Modi, but would not allow anyone to break Maharashtra into small pieces. Without mentioning Modi’s name, Thackeray said, “If you are dreaming about separating Maharashtra, we will not allow you to do that.” It is a known fact that some BJP leaders are in favour of smaller states.

I can pull in crowds too
While addressing the residents of Bhosari, Thackeray said even if Modi was addressing a public rally in nearby Pimpri, it did not affect his audience, for a large crowd had gathered to hear him (Thackeray) as well. “I don’t hold a big post like him (Modi). However, I can still pull in crowds,” Thackeray stated.
