Farmer accuses state Congress president R V Deshpande's daughter-in-law of forcibly occupying land owned by him

Meghana Deshpande, the daughter-in-law of R V Deshpande, the state congress committee president, has been accused by BP Shanthappa, a farmer, of illegally occupying an acre of land that rightfully belongs to him.

Shanthappa, who filed a complaint about the alleged illegal occupation with the Lokayukta on May 13, alleged that senior police officers including the deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner of police had failed to execute the stay order, he had obtained from the court on April 29 to stop Deshpande from constructing a compound wall on the said plot.

Shanthappa has complained about the alleged illegal occupation on his land by members of the Deshpande family


Courting trouble?


Shanthappa says the illegal construction took place despite an undertaking by the lawyer representing the Deshpandes, who promised that there would be no development on the land under litigation.

Shanthappa has elaborated in the complaint that Meghana Deshpande proposes to build a resort on her four acres 34 guntas of land owned by her.

However, she has allegedly encroached on an additional acre on an adjacent plot that belongs tou00a0 Shanthappa.

"When I tried to stop them from digging on the land, they intimidated me and demanded I pay Rs 1 crore if I wanted the land vacated.

Inspector Kenchegowda of the Yalahanka Police Station threatened to put me behind bars if I insisted on filing a complaint," said Shanthappa.

Ground reality

Prasad Deshpande, Meghana's husband, refuted the allegations. "We ate the rightful owners of the property. Shanthappa is a blackmailer. He is using my father's name to extort money from us," said Prasad.

He further said that his family is in possession of 4.34 guntas of land the fell in Survey Number 171/1, 171/2 and 171/3. "We got the plotu00a0 surveyed by the government Survey Department.

It was only after the survey was completed that we began building the compound in accordance with the findings of the survey.

Shanthappa has nou00a0 record to prove he owns the land. Let him produce the documents and I am ready to accept his conditions," Prasad said.

Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde and Additional Director General of Police RK Dutta said that they were not aware of Shanthappa's complaint.
