Cultural programme 'Naya Sawera', which began with a dance performance paying obeisance to goddess Saraswati, saw participation of around 40 women inmates.
"The event was aimed at encouraging the inmates to leave negativity of their past behind and see the world in new light of hope and happiness, peace and prosperity," said Additional IG (Prison) Mukesh Prasad.
We are working towards 'Naya Sawera' by imparting life skill training and education to the women prisoners so that they can empower and rehabilitate themselves in the world outside the prison confidently and claim their place in the society, Prasad said.
Delhi High Court judge Justice Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal was a guest of the function.
