Victim had hired the maid just 4 days before the theft and had not taken all her details; cops have made a sketch in order to trace her
A 66-year-old resident of Chunabhatti learnt a harsh lesson, when a maid that she hired without a background check looted her house of goods worth Rs 8 lakh and decamped. The theft happened on April 2, when the complainant Asha Oman had gone for a bath around 10.30 am. The other members of the family had all gone to work. When she emerged from the bathroom, she realised that the house had been looted. According to the police officials, the accused has been identified as Jaya, and she was hired four days before the theft.

Speaking to MiD DAY Senior Police Inspector T R Choudary from Chunnabhatti police station said, “The complainant failed to take detailed information about the accused while hiring her. We don’t even know her full name. We have made a sketch of the accused who is assumed to be aged around 30-32 years and we have passed it on to other police stations in order to locate her.”
“The incident took place when the complainant had gone for a bath and the other family members were out at work,” said Choudary. He added, “There are two more servants working in the same house.” When asked whether the other servants knew about crime, he added, “We are investigating from every angle. However, the servants are not aware of Jaya’s background and they had never seen her before.” The unidentified accused has been booked under Section 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Indian Penal Code.
