Shilpesh Shantilal Dharod was arrested by the Mulund police after they received information from various medical representatives that Darore, a wholesaler of medicines under the banner Safe Life Pharmachem Pvt Ltd, based at Dr Rajendra Prasad Road, Mulund (W) was supplying various abortion medicines illegally. “Darore was making fake bills of a nursing home called Khurana, which is closed, and was then giving the medicines to medical representatives who were later selling it,” said an officer from Mulund police station. “Nobody is allowed to sell the medicines without a prescription from a gynaecologist, but Darore was supplying the pills to medical representatives, who we suspect gave him a commission, and later gave the medicines to people for illegal use,” said the police officer.

The police are now searching for the medical representatives who they believe are on the run. The police have booked Darore for cheating and forgery.

As per the provisions, the doctors have to maintain receipts of medicines purchased and details of patients to whom the medicines have been given. Recording the medicine batch number is mandatory. Over the last few weeks, the FDA has registered over 230 FIRs against chemists across the state, including 15 in Mumbai. Seven chemists were even arrested for selling abortion pills based on prescriptions from homoeopathy, unani and ayurveda practitioners.u00a0
