Artists come 'cheap' at People For Animals fund-raising show. A Hussain is available for Rs five lakh

If you plan to display a MF Hussain or SH Raza work on your wall, you'll have to shell out more than the cost of your home. But rarely do you get a chance to buy their works at a price in which they wouldn't even sell the sample of their creations. The rarest of the rare opportunity is here with the carpet show where reputed artists and designers have used carpet as the base to paint their imagination. Keep reading as we delve deeper in to the show, which is now available for online viewing.u00a0

This is an offer you can't miss because an original Manu Parekh number which elsewhere would cost nothing less than 20 lakh would be up for sale at just Rs 65,000. Even a Hussain work will be sold for just five lakhs. That's not all. Amit Ambalal whose commands a price tag of atleast 30 lakh will sell a carpet for Rs 65,000. All the carpets are hand woven and will be used by People For Animals, an NGO headed by animal right activist and politico Maneka Gandhi. The initiative is aimed at creating awareness about animal protection in a meaningful and practical manner. "Every year we express art through a completely new medium, like ancient tiles from old havelis, antique European lithographs and the oleographs of Raja Ravi Verma. Carpets were on my mind from a long time. When I got an approval from MF Hussain and SH Raza, we went forward with it," reveals Maneka Gandhi, chairperson, People For Animal. "We have selected the artists who would translate well with this and have kept affordable pricing. The artists' signatures would be woven in the carpet," she adds about the 400 pieces on display.

Keeping the appeal
All the carpets that can now grace your floor or your wall have been weaved at Sunil Sethi Design Alliance. Talking about the exhibition, artist Manu Parekh says, "The concept is very interesting and I chose a painting that would make me reach out to a lot of people." While another artist Manish Pushkale says, "It's fascinating to collaborate with them because a painter works in a very conventional method. It gives a new visual appeal with your interpretation of the work and their medium. It's very difficult to showcase tones and colours through weaving, but Sethi has tried to follow the palate as much as possible. They are beautifully designed and aesthetically done."
