What women want

New entertainment channel BIG-CBS LOVE claims to be the first women's entertainment channel with shows that target the urban femme. But will the ladies feel the love?u00a0u00a0

Love is in the air-waves. A joint venture between Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd and CBS Studios International will give you some sweet LOVE with their latest entertainment channel set to air on March 21.

Choosing International Women's Day to launch the channel, the event saw actors Mini Mathur, Neetu Chandra, Tannishtha Chatterjee, designer Shaina NC, and CEO, Madison Media Group Punitha Arumugam discuss the entertainment needs of the contemporary woman.

Let's talk Big-CBS Love will air the latest season of the Oprah
Winfrey Show, which also happens to be the show's last season

Love aspires to fill the uninhabited space of a women-specific entertainment channel. Put on your pink pyjamas, fluff those pillows and stock up on tissues, as you tune in to The Oprah Winfrey Show that goes into season 25u00a0-- what will be the final season for theu00a0 hostess with the mostest.

The Oprah Winfrey show, which was once the highest rated show on American television, still has its loyal followers. Its last season promises to deliver screaming fans, free goodies, heartfelt stories and subliminal advertising; just like the good ol' days.

The channel's line-up will also include America's Next Top Model, hosted by the gorgeous Tyra Banks, King of Queens, The Talk, Rachel Ray and the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.

Here's what you'll get
Tyra Banks takes you through the 17th cycle of America's Next Top Model where skinny, catty and dotty are wrapped up into one reality show. The concept of the show is all encompassing for great TRPsu00a0-- models, designer clothing and reality-documentary style confessions that prove that all of life's problems can be solved with a makeover.

Rachel Ray's show mixes talking with cooking and lightly tossed up with some celebrities. With a stage set-up on a turntable and a live audience, the show explores Ray's culinary expertise while discussing real problems. She also adds garnish as she interviews Paula Abdul, if you weren't already impressed.

The Talk involves a panel of celebrity women who, we are made to believe, adequately represent and relate to ourselves as they chit-chat about serious problems in a studio in Hollywood.

News anchor Julie Chen, wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne Sharon Osbourne and actors Holly Robinson Peete, Sara Gilbert, Marisa Jaret Winokur, and Leah Remini partake in what can only be termed as mindless ruminating banter about how husbands watch too much sports, hair spray and sexy lingerie.

This time machine will take you straight to the '60s when women wore aprons and prided themselves on keeping a clean house. What remains of the programming is the all-American dream family in Everybody Loves Raymond that is a fun watch for the entire family.

The King of Queens allows a healthy laugh at the overweight husband and bossy wife characters, as they enjoy everyday problems like going on a diet, being nice to the in-laws and winning a particularly acrimonious spate.

All said and done
We appreciate love's attempt to bring us the latest season of American-made television shows but we hate the overdose of mush being fed to us via romantic comedies, talk shows and relationship advice.

As for the channel name, we'd appreciate it if channel honchos gave a little more thought into what women want instead of depending on chauvinistic market research from the 1920s. The channel will be available across cable and DTH services.u00a0

Big-CBS Love will air March 21 onwards.
