Siddhartha Kararwal's work at Project 88 mocks a generation that just doesn't seem to care about the plastic bag menace

"The plastic buffalo is there to remind us that we are stuck with the plastic bag menace. Just because it has been banned in a few places, doesn't make the problem go away. The buffalo is mocking us," explains 25 year-old artist Siddhartha Kararwal. His works titled My Generation is Silent tells us there are some problems we just can't deal with. "To me, the form of a buffalo wasn't as important as what it was made of. I wanted to collate it all in a funny form and so, the buffalo came to exist. Next to the buffalo, is a TV, where I am shown chewing away. I am representing the whole of human kind, that just can't get enough of the plastic bags." The buffalo is also shown offering a blue flower to Siddhartha, which the artist says reflects the fact that even the buffalo is amused by human antics.

The MS University, Baroda student, who draws inspiration from American pop artist Peter Saul, says, "All my pieces are comic in nature, like the one that shows a dead pig with a cross over his eye. Now that he is dead, he is no better than a paperweight. They are comic, but make a comment."

Siddhartha's works are on display till July 25 at Project 88, BMP Building, NA Sawant Marg, near Colaba Fire Station, 11 am to 7 pm.
