Victim claims bank is now harassing him over payments

EighT fraudulent transactions and just one SMS. Delhi-based web designer Vikas Kumar is miffed, not just because he has been cheated of Rs 27,000, but because of the alleged lackadaisical attitude of his bank.

The 30-year-old, who holds an account at a private bank, and a credit card (number 4477474579204002), went to his hometown in Bihar from 24th to 27th of October last year during Diwali, when he suddenly noticed an SMS, which said he had paid a bill of Rs 7,999. Since Vikas hadn't made the payment he decided to get his card blocked. But before he could do that, almost eight transactions were made amounting to Rs 27,000 in total.

"I was at my home town when I got this SMS. I immediately realised that someone had misused my account. Finally, after getting the statement I discovered that eight bill payments had been made through my credit card. But I got only one SMS for a bill amount of Rs 7,999.

"I am harasse d and disappointed as the outstanding amount of Rs 27,740 with interest after a year is now Rs 35000. I never made these payments so I asked customer care to block my card. The bank then blocked the card (4477474579204002) and issued me a new card (4477474579204010) as per my request," Kumar added.
The bank then assured Kumar that it was investigating the case.

"I was supposed to get calls from customer care executives regarding the matter, but nothing happened. I repeatedly asked the bank to provide me details of phone numbers on which the bill was paid, biller's name, address or the IP address form where the transaction was made, but they failed to provide me anything. Now every alternate day I get calls from a different bank representative asking for payment and each day I have to narrate the entire story. But there is no resolution in sight," Kumar added.

The Other Side

As a rule we communicate and educate our customers not to hand over the card to anyone, not even to the executive. In his case the card was with him and he had the three digit code so we consider that the payment was made by him. A senior bank official
