Maple Shelters, the Pune-based real estate developer which has run into trouble with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) for its unapproved project of 10,000 houses at Rs 5 lakh each under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), on Tuesday claimed that it doesn’t need the state government’s permission for it.


“We do not need permission from the government to carry out this project,” said Sachin Agarwal, CMD of Maple Shelters.

He also claimed that he visited the collector’s office on Tuesday and gave satisfactory answers to all queries. He said he will soon release documents related to the project to prove his case.

MHADA, on the other hand, has made it clear that no project under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet scheme in the state gets cleared without its permission. “Anyone who claims otherwise is lying,” said a senior MHADA official.

mid-day had on Monday showed that Maple Shelters didn’t have the requisite permission from MHADA for its project.

On April 14, Maple Shelters had published an advertisement announcing the launch of its project in Pune under the PM’s housing-for-all scheme. On its website, it claimed to be aligned with the PMAY.

Despite the applicants being asked to fork out a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000, call centres catering to the builder claimed that they have been flooded with queries from eager hopefuls.

Repeated attempts to contact Pune Collector Saurabh Rao failed.

Meanwhile, Pune police booked Agarwal, his brother Navin and Maple Shelters’ sales manager Priyanka Agarwal for allegedly cheating people under the guise of providing them cheap flats based on a complaint from two citizens.
