"On July 26, Sanjay was held near Rohini Plaza, Sector 10, following a tip-off. He and his younger brother Rakesh had hired a criminal to kill sarpanch of Hayatpur. On June 23, they murdered Yadav. The brothers managed to flee but villagers caught the hired killer and lynched him," said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime and railways).

During interrogation, Sanjay disclosed that in 2009, after a quarrel, Yadav had registered a case of attempt to murder against the brothers at Sector 10 police station in Gurgaon. To take revenge, the duo decided to hire a professional assassin for Rs one lakh.

On the afternoon of June 23, Yadav was playing cards with other villagers when the accused brothers and the assassin opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot. Villagers caught hold of the assassin and allegedly burnt him alive. Haryana Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for the absconding brothers, after registering a murder case in this regard.

"Sanjay, who has studied up to Class X, works as a vegetable supplier while Rakesh is a property dealer. Sanjay is involved in five other criminal cases, including those of kidnapping and attempt to murder. He has been declared a proclaimed offender in three of these casesr," said Chand.
