Videsh: A pathetic saga

Videsh: A pathetic saga

Film: Videsh

Starring: Priety Zinta

Director: Deepa Mehta

Verdict: **

Taken from one of the oldest folk stories, Videsh surprises us with its bad making and story line, because no one can believe the fact that even Deepa Mehta can do bad movies.

Chand (Priety is no more pretty), from a typical Punjabi family, marries an NRI munda Rocky, settled in Canada with his nagging mother, silly father, jobless brother and his kids and his wife. Chand marries him and leaves to Canada. Trouble starts once she lands in there. Rocky turns out to be a sadist who enjoys beating up his wife for no reason. And like any other good Indian wife, Chand takes it.

The same old plot of domestic violence and same old theory of how patient our women are just gets into your nerves. But the twist is a miracle medicine given to Chand by a Jamaican lady. When given to her husband, he will fall in love with her. But the medicine doesn't reach the right person, and a king cobra drinks it! (beat it) and it falls in love with Chand. And in Canada, a king cobra which can change to any form, be it a man, woman or cat or cockroach, takes the form of Chand's husband and meets her.

If you still want to watch this tragic-sci-fi-myhtological-family drama, go ahead!
