Raebareli: The 19-year-old woman, who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her in 2017, is in critical condition after she met with an accident on Sunday. She is undergoing treatment at Lucknow's King George's Medical University. The woman from Unnao, her two aunts and their advocate were on their way to meet her uncle, who is lodged in a Rae Bareli jail in a separate case, when a speeding truck hit their car. The accident killed her aunts, leaving her and the advocate critically injured, police had said.

The incident found its echo in Parliament with SP member Ram Gopal Yadav Monday alleging an attempt was made to "kill" the rape victim, leading to brief adjournment of Rajya Sabha. Yadav said the security personnel provided to her was not with the victim at the time of the accident. Superintendent of Police M P Verma denied having any knowledge of why the victim was not accompanied by the bodyguards though security cover has been provided to them. "An inquiry has been ordered to look into the reasons as to why the security personnel were not present with her and action will be taken after getting a report," Verma said. Sengar, the prime accused in the rape case, was booked for murder along with nine others on Monday after the rape survivor's mother alleged the accident was a conspiracy to wipe out her family.

The FIR also listed 15-20 unnamed people, police said. "FIR has been registered under the IPC's Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120b (criminal conspiracy) against 10 named persons, including the BJP MLA, and 15-20 others," a cop said. Besides the BJP legislator, Manoj Singh Sengar, Vinod Mishra, Haripal Singh, Naveen Singh, Komal Singh, Arun Singh, Gyandendra Singh, Rinku Singh, Awadhesh Singh have been named in the FIR. The case was filed on a complaint from the rape survivor's uncle Mahesh, who alleged, "I am sure that the car was hit for killing all of them by the BJP MLA and his men." The mother too claimed "it was not an accident but a conspiracy to eliminate all of us". "The son of a co-accused in the case, Shahi Singh, and another youth of the village had threatened us. They said that they will deal with us," she said.
Police said on Monday that the registration plate of the truck that hit the car was scrubbed and painted black, but they have managed to retrieve the number. The truck has been impounded and the driver arrested, they said.
'Appears to be an accident'
Meanwhile, the UP government said it is ready for a CBI probe into the accident, if a request is made, Director General of Police O P Singh said. "The truck was speeding and it was raining too. Prima facie, it appears to be an accident, but a detailed unbiased probe is on in the matter," Singh said. "The state government is ready for recommending a CBI probe into the Sunday's mishap in Rae Bareli if the victim's mother or any relative makes any request in this regard," he added. Sengar, a four-time MLA, was arrested in 2018 for allegedly raping the teenage girl at his residence in 2017.
