The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the case of robbery of Rs 18 lakh with the arrest of two persons. The entire robbed money and a motorcycle and knife used in the crime were recovered from them.

The incident had occurred on April 30. A resident of Hari Nagar, Ramesh had gone to meet his friend Mahesh Kumar at his office on 100 foota road in Chattarpur to borrow Rs 40, 000 from him. Ramesh was also carrying Rs. 17.65 lakh in the dickey of his motorcycle, which had been given to him by one Raju Chauhan of Saket and were to be delivered to his (Raju's) manager. After taking money from his friend, when Ramesh reached near M.B. Road red light, he was waylaid by two persons riding a motorcycle. They snatched Rs 40,000 from him at a knife point and also took away the bag containing Rs. 17.65 lakh kept in the dickey of his motorcycle.

Police trap
"We formed a team and laid a trap. We also deployed informers to track the criminals. On May 2 at about 4.30 pm, we apprehended the two accused named Khursheed (28) and Kapil (25) near CDR Chowk, Andheria Moreu00a0 while they were coming from Gurgaon on their motorcycle. Rs 20,000 in cash was recovered from Khursheed while Rs 15,000 was recovered from Kapil. The knife used in the crime was also recovered from Kapil. During interrogation the accused said they had hidden Rs 17.65 lakh in a jungle near Hanuman Mandir on M.B. Road, which was also recovered," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).

Crime for cash
The police said Khursheed was a driver by profession and Kapil ran a motor repair shop at his village Dera Gaon. "As they did not have any regular income, they planned to rob someone carrying cash on 100 foota road as it is quite a secluded place and has offices of various property dealers. Khursheed borrowed a motorcycle from his friend Santosh and on April 30, he along with Kapil conducted a recee and found a person coming out of a property dealer's shop and going alone on a motorcycle on the road.

The duo then waylaid him and snatched the money kept in his pocket at a knife point. They also opened the dickey of his motorcycle and took away the bag containing bundles of notes of the denomination of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000.After they found that they had robbed such a huge amount, they became scared and even without counting the money hid it in a jungle near Hanuman Mandir on MG Road near Andheria More. They then divided Rs.40,000 equally among themselves," the police officer said.
