The chairman of a city-based trust accuses his nephew of forging papers




THE chairman of a wealthy educational trust has accused his nephew of illegal activities, including forgery to take control of the trust.



Srinivas Murthy, founder-chairman and managing trustee of the Rs 100-crore Shushrutha Educational Trust, has filed a complaint against Dr L Prashanth Murthy and his father L Lakshmi Narayana, who is also Srinivas's brother-in-law. Prashanthu00a0 used to be the director of the trust's nursing college and hospital.

Forged resignation

In his complaint, Srinivas alleges that Prashanth prepared a resignation letter for the chairman using a forged signature. He later declared that his resignation had been accepted and even announced a farewell party and issued directions to banks to freeze all transactions in Srinivas' name. Prashanth is doing all this to grab the trust property and siphon off the annual income which comes to around Rs 4 crore, Srinivas said. He further alleged that the father and son co-operated with him until 2006 but started behaving differently only recently.

Fraud record

Srinivas said the problem started when he noticed Prashanth interfering in admissions and taking commission from students. When he objected, Prashanth reportedly threatened him with dire consequences.u00a0u00a0 Although Prashanth stopped working as director after that incident, he continued tou00a0u00a0 operate the hospital's ultra-sound scan unit.

Srinivas claims that when he investigated Prashanth's activities, it was found that he was carrying out sex-determination tests. He also verified the documents and to his shock, found that Prashanth was running the scanning unitu00a0 without any permission from the authorities, he told the police.

Prashanth has also obtained Indian Medical Council and All India Council of Technical Education approval by forging the signature of the concerned BBMP authorities, Srinivas alleged in his complaint. Rajgopal Nagar police who have taken up the case against Prashanth and Lakshmi Narayana for criminal breach of trust, forgery and cheating.
