Traffic badly affected due to road caving in at Marine Drive

Traffic came to a halt and vehicles had to be diverted to other roads because of the cave-in at Marine Drive

Traffic was badly affected on Netaji Subhash Chandra road when a part of the stretch that connects Girgaum Chowpatty to Marine Drive caved in, in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. The road connects Marine Drive to Malabar hill and the rest of South Mumbai.

Commuters had a harrowing time as both sides of the road were blocked to traffic till 11.30 am. The stretch near Charni Road station was flooded because of the water-pipe burst. South-bound traffic was finally diverted along Peddar Road towards Girgaum Chowpatty around noon. Traffic from Churchgate towards Charni Road was diverted along Maharshi Karve road.

Officials from BMC’s water department were seen cleaning the mud and debris along the side of the road till late in the evening. Daily commuters who got down at the Charni Road station and proceeded towards Wilson College had to trudge through muddy water, while motorists took over an hour to go from one end of Marine Drive to the other.
