Thane: The body of an unidentified middle-aged man was found in a lake in Vitthalwadi town in Thane, police said on Friday.
Some locals on Thursday spotted the body floating in the lake, following which they informed the police who retrieved it and sent it for postmortem.
According to police, the man was first strangulated to death and then his hands were tied from behind. The body was later dumped in the lake in Manere village, they said.
A case has been registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of IPC. Efforts were on to identify the deceased, police said. The killers and the motive behind the murder were yet to be ascertained, they said.
