6 hurt in morning accident on Expressway; brake failure believed to be behind mishap

An accident took place yesterday on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway around 10 am . The mishap involved a tempo traveller and a Tata Magic car. Six people were injured; two are in a serious condition.

The accident took place near the Sarovar Hotel when the tempo reportedly hit the car from behind owing to a suspected brake failure.

"The tempo went out of control and hit the car from behind. It then jumped the divider and hit a biker, who was on his way to Katraj from Dehu Road," said Police Sub-Inspector J Andhale from the Hinjewadi traffic division.

Brijesh Kishore (25) and Mali Raut (26) were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Metro Hospital at Baner. Dr Satish Pattanshetti from Metro said that Kishore is in a critical condition as he suffered a blood clot in the brain apart from a fracture in the right leg. "The injury can be fatal if the blood clot spreads. He seems stable now. Mali has fractured his hand," he said.

The three injured have been transferred to Kashibai Navle Hospital at Sinhagad Road. Mustafa Ansari (38), Ram Badal (45) and Samin Ammad (35) are recuperating at Kashibai Navle.

While Ansari has suffered an injury on the left hand, Ram Badal has a head injury and Samin Ammad has fractured his left hand.

All three are residents of Ambegaon. Another injured Gunaji Dongre (40), from Malunge was discharged from the Metro hospital after he was treated for a head injury with 10 stitches.
