Minimum temperatures continued their free fall in the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region on Saturday due to clear overnight sky, a Met official said. Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5, Pahalgam minus 4.2 and Gulmarg minus 7 degrees Celsius. At minus 13, Kargil was the coldest town in Jammu and Kashmir as Leh recorded minus 5.2 as the night's lowest temperature.
Jammu city and Katra town recorded 7.5, Batote four, Banihal 0.7, Bhaderwah two and Udhampur four degrees Celsius. Kashmir has witnessed scant snowfall so far this winter, a cause of concern as the murmuring mountain streams, serene lakes and bountiful rivers flow rich during summer only if there have been heavy snowfall in winter.
