Television journalist dies in road mishap

Venkatesh Chapalgaonkar , the 39-year-old Pune bureau chief of Star Majha, died on Monday evening when the driver of the car in which he was travelling, lost control and plunged into a deep ravine about 30 km from Sholapur.

Venkatesh Chapalgaonkar , the 39-year-old Pune bureau chief of Star Majha, died on Monday evening when the driver of the car in which he was travelling, lost control and plunged into a deep ravine about 30 km from Sholapur.

Chapalgaonkar and the channel's cameraman Rajesh Bidkar were on their way to cover a political event organised by Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar.

Chapalgaonkar died on the spot while the driver Balasaheb Kamble was declared dead on arrival at the local hospital.

Rajesh Bidkar, the cameraman accompanying Chapalgaonkar sustained severe injuries and his condition is still critical.

Chapalgaonkar is survived by his wife Rupa, a television journalist with TV9 in Pune, and two sons Param (8) and Veer (4).
