Reportedly, the tenant had to return his brother-in-law's loan and they used to fight frequently over the issue. Trying to intervene in one such fight, landlord's son stabbed the latter

Trying to make his tenant's life a bit easier, a Class XII student ended up making his own difficult. The accused, identified as Sonu (18), is a resident of Pushp Vihar, Sector 3. His father works in the Public Works Department. Reportedly, they had a tenant, Daljeet Singh, in their house.

The whole chaos started when Daljeet's brother-in-law, Shashi Kant, started visiting the house frequently. They also fought regularly, to the chagrin of the landlords. "Daljeet works for a private firm. He had taken a loan of Rs 35,000 from Shashi, who works with Doordarshan. Shashi wanted his money back but Daljeet kept making excuses. Invariably, their arguments turned ugly," said the police official.

Effort in vain
The official said every time, Sonu tried to pacify them. When things got out of control and Shashi's visits became even more frequent, Sonu threatened him to not visit his house, or else face dire consequences.
"On 3 October, Shashi again visited the house and had yet another heated argument with Daljeet, who sought Sonu's intervention. The events rapidly took turn for worse and Sonu ended up stabbing Shashi with a kitchen knife in the stomach. A neighbour heard the commotion and called the police," said the official.u00a0

Fighting for life
The victim was admitted in the ICU of Modi Hospital, where he is battling for his life and his condition is stated to be critical. Police said they have registered an FIR under Section 120-B (hatching criminal conspiracy) and 307 (attempt to commit murder) against the accused. "We have added Section 120-B, because allegedly Daljeet had asked Sonu to kill Shashi," added the official.
