Lucknow: Five more patients in the city have tested positive for swine flu, taking the total number of cases to 36 in the state capital, a senior health official said on Saturday.

“Five new patients have been detected with HINI virus and they are being treated at their respective homes,” Chief Medical Officer SNS Yadav said. With this, a total of 36 swine flu patients have been detected in Lucknow so far, he said. According to him, out of these patients, only three are admitted, which included two at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and one at King George Medical University.


Meanwhile in Kanpur, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl died of swine flu, the first disease-related death in the city, prompting the authorities to swing into action, a senior health official said today. Aapti, a resident of Juhi Lal colony, died on Wednesday, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr RP Yadav said. On Saturday, it was today confirmed that she was infected by H1N1 virus, he said.

In Gujarat, with five more persons succumbing to swine flu on Saturday, the death toll in the state since January has reached 71, an official statement said.”Five swine flu deaths were reported in Gujarat. While there were two deaths in Kutch, one fatality each was reported in Ahmedabad, Amreli and Surat,” the statement from Gujarat Government said.
