Son booked for abetting mother's suicide

The daily household drama of a family ended in a tragedy after the eldest member of the family committed suicide. What's more, the police have held her eldest son guilty of the crime. 67-year-old Lilavati Dattatray Korpad, a resident PMC colony in Rajendra Nagar, emulated herself on Friday morning after alleged constant harassment by her son to render ownership of the house and vehicle in his name.

Her son Pramod Korpad (39), a resident of Anand Nagar has been charged under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code after the police found suicide notes, blaming him for Lilavati's action.

According to the complaint by younger brother Hemant at Vishrambaug police station, Pramod used to frequent Lilavati's home and forced her to transfer the residential property and rickshaw to him. Fed up of the threats, Lilavati set herself on fire. Three handwritten suicide notes, that blame Pramod for her decision to end her life were verified by the police to be hers.
