Dr Narendra Kadu has been picked as registrar of Universityof Pune (UoP), a post that was lying vacant for the past six months.
On Wednesday, a committee appointed by the varsity, interviewed 16 candidates. Dr Kadu emerged as the chosen one. He is currently handling charge of joint director, higher education, Pune.

“I have received an order of appointment. I have intimated the state government about my selection and I will join UoP in a week’s time,” said Dr Kadu.
Former registrar Dr ML Jadhav had resigned and was relieved of duty on August 29 last year. As an administrative head, the registrar is responsible for all the recruitments of the university.
For teaching posts, the registrar acts as the secretary of the recruitment committee and for non-teaching posts he is the chairperson. As UoP is already facing manpower shortage — 30 per cent of teaching posts in the departments inside the varsity are currently vacant — a full-time registrar was the need of hour for the university.u00a0
