Airport sources said the bowser caught fire seconds before it was to start refuelling the plane at 43 bay of international tarmac. An Air India personnel detected the fire in the bowser and alerted its driver.
Fire brigade used foam to control the blaze. The bowser was, however, gutted. The plane and its 268 passengers were safe. A short circuit was suspected to have caused the fire.
The airport fire department would investigate the incident and submit its report to the Airport Authority of India as also the Directorate of Civil Aviation. There was no disruption in air traffic due to the incident.
