Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended a celebrations at Shivneri Fort in Pune district, where Shivaji was born, and paid tributes.
In Mumbai, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao paid floral tributes to the Maratha warrior king at the Shivaji Park and garlanded his statue.
The state government's official 'Shiv Jayanti' celebrations are held on February 19 each year, while the Shiv Sena celebrates 'Shiv Jayanti' as per the "tithi."
A Sena leader said that his party wants the government to celebrate the event as per the "tithi" - on Falgun Vadya Tritiya.
Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Mumbai Mayor Snhal Ambekar, Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, former Mayor Mahadev Deole, office-bearers of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Commemoration Committee and citizens were present on the occasion.
The Governor later participated in the 'Shiv Jayanti' celebrations at the Mayor's Bungalow and listened to the patriotic songs presented by the Sangeet Kala Academy.
