The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 11,091.56 points, rose 413.21 points or 3.76 per cent from the previous close to end trade at 11,414.96 points.
Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 3.5 per cent to close at 3,480 points.
Broader market indices also gained, with the BSE midcap index moving up 1.98 per cent, while the BSE smallcap index was up 1.34 per cent.
