The BPO owned by the Anupam Dev Group at Ramamurthy Nagar had bought the computers from a shop where Kiran Gowda worked.u00a0 The BPO shut overnight after incurring losses, and its proprietor went missing. The company had been unable to pay the EMIs for the computers to Kiran, who would be sent by his employers to collect the dues.
Kiran took advantage of the proprietor's absence and offered his friends Kari and Rame Rs 2,000 for executing the theft of the BPO's computers. On Friday, they broke open the lock of the BPO, loaded the items on a hired tempo and fled.
When Kiran Gowda saw the size of the booty, he panicked. The others, however, started selling the items at throwaway prices at Majestic. On being tipped about the computers being sold at unbelievably low prices, the Upparpet police reached the spot and arrested Kari Gouda. "Kari Gouda confessed heu00a0 committed the crime to fund his love of gambling,u00a0 alcohol, shopping and girls," said Upparpet Inspector Lokeshwar. The police have recovered booty.
