The Indian rupee on Wednesday opened strong by 21 paise against the dollar on expectations of good capital inflow from foreign funds in the domestic equity markets amid a weak USD overseas.

In active trade at Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the domestic currency gained 21 paise to quote at 47.28 in early trade. It had ended up seven paise at 47.49 yesterday.

Forex dealers said a weak greenback overseas and expectations of capital inflow in equities, which may open in the positive territory following Asian cues, buoyed on the rupee sentiment.
