Meerut: A retired professor who had filed a case against Nirmal Baba has been arrested on charges of blackmailing the latter, police said.
Thana Medical in-charge Bachan Singh Sirohi said Harish Vir (60), a resident of Aurangshahpur Diggi and retired professor of a college in Baghpat, had registered a case against Nirmaljit Singh alias Nirmal Baba about two years back.
He had alleged that few years back he had gone to attend a programme of Nirmal Baba where he was made to eat 'kheer' in order to cure diabetes, following which Vir's sugar level got disturbed.
Thereafter, police conducted an investigation and registered an FIR in this connection before dismissing the allegation as false.
Following this, Nirmal Baba's son Supreet Narula registered a case of cheating, conspiracy and blackmailing against Vir. Narula also said that according to the footage of the programme, it came to the fore that Vir never went there.
He also alleged that Vir was asking for money to shut the case against Baba.
Police has investigated the case and sent a charge-sheet against Harish Vir in court. The CJM filed a non-bailable warrant against Vir following which Meerut district's medical Thana police arrested him last night.
