Reeling you in

This new cafe in Koramangala will win you over with its Un-Snobby air, but don't expect anything unusual here

But what eludes most of us is a feeling of comfort when you're sipping on this hot cup of coffee. We got that feeling at this newest kid on the block called Caffe Grind in Koramangala.

Though nothing is over the top here, you will see wooden chairs and tables with a few upholstered ones.

One of the walls is completely empty and would have some knick knacks on its shelves. Since the cafe is just about a week old, their menu also looks like it's a makeshift one.

This cafe doesn't rely on loud music and greasy bites (thank God). The menu is not too exhaustive either with the familiar riffs of Coffees, Juices, Sandwiches, Burgers and Pastas to chew on.

Bang in the middle of this tiny joint is a pillar with shelves on all four sides stocking all kinds of comics, books and board games you could think of.

Take your pick from M.A.D. comics to Tintin and Asterix or battle it out over Pictionary or a pack of UNO cards as you wait for your order to be placed.

It was just a wee past 7 pm on a weekday evening and we spotted two groups of young girls and boys; one on their sleek laptops and the other rapt in conversation about how Bangalore city traffic is getting to be a big pain.

We know, we know, it's a bad habit to eavesdrop, but we couldn't help but overhear their chit chat, as the place is on the quieter side. But no, that's not the only thing we did.

We picked the Asterix comics and flipped a few pages. But, thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long before we were served.

We had called for a Club Chicken Sandwich (Rs 120) in a brown bread version.

The sandwich had the right amount of layers and crunch of lettuce leaves, topped with mayo giving it the tangy flavours and juicy chunks of chicken. Four sandwich triangles with French fries on the side and it's a whole meal in itself.

Though we did try their Pasta with Pesto sauce (Rs 120 for vegetarian), it tasted nothing great. The pesto didn't do much to add any kind of zing or flavour to the penne.

The cafe has a good selection of juices, smoothies, coolers, shakes and of course coffees and are pretty good to sip on too in good company. We didn't find any desserts on their menu, which we feel was quite a downer.

Walk down to the Cakewalk, which is just opposite this cafe for your dose of sugar. Right now the cafe is still in its infancy stage and is going through minor teething issues.

We hope they buckle up soon.

Caffe Grind didn't know we were there. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
