Humour is a universal language, but Pune's Amey Sanjay Pawar, 18, can make you laugh in Marathi. The teen already has thousands of Maharashtrians in splits with Marathi humour on his Facebook page, 'Maharashtrians Meme'.
The 18-year-old created the page in December, dedicating it to creating and sharing viral memes and video content in Marathi. In the last few months, the page has already grown to have a following of more than 1,30,000 followers, and averages about 20,000 views on a daily basis.
The page has everything from a heartbroken Maharashtrian boy rapping about his girlfriend's attitude, to Marathi versions of popular songs. "Punekars are known to have a funny sense of humour," said Pawar, adding, "There are plenty of memes and viral content in English and Hindi, but no such dedicated place that posts similar content in Marathi."
Currently in Std XII, Pawar said that he was inspired by the page 'Savage Memes,' and wanted to make similar content in Marathi. "I specifically wanted to create this type of content in Marathi because there is a vacuum for it," he added.
All of this isn't any game though for the young Punekar though. "Growth is good; when I reach a million followers I will monetise the page and make a brand out of it, maybe even sell some merchandise through it," the teen said.
