According to the Lonavala rural police, the vehicle — a Tavera model — had been carrying passengers from Mumbai to Pune without the requisite permit.

The driver, Vikrant Gaikwad had initially picked up three passengers who were later joined by six more at Sanpada. On crossing the Malavali flyover at around 1 pm, one of the tyres on the vehicle burst, causing the driver to lose control of the steering.

Casualties
The deceased have been identified as Tejal Suhas Jagtap (24) from Yerawada, Pune, Laxmi Narayan Chougule (34) and Nitin Narayan Chougule (26), both residents of Airoli.

Critically injured
The injured include the driver Gaikwad, and the other passengers, who have been identified as Radha Ramdas Dharke (19), Santosh Sudam Bhegde (35), Mayur Madhukar Waghmare (26), Karan Baburao Jadhav (23), Natha Tukaram Narhe (35) and Suhas Shivaji Jagtap (50).

They were admitted to a private hospital in Nigdi for treatment, where the doctors said Narhe and Jagtap were in a critical condition.
