Haveli Senior Citizen Grievance Redressal forum helps senior citizens claim right to their own home
Following months of torture at the hands of their youngest son and daughter-in-law, in October, an elderly couple had approached the Sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Haveli seeking their right to live peacefully in their own home. Kalewadi based senior citizen, Ambadas Pawar, 70, alleged that their youngest family members often assaulted him and his wife. Reacting to their complaint, the Senior Citizen Grievance Redressal Forum on Monday directed the two accused to vacate the Pawar residence immediately, under Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007.

Ambadas, who used to work in the Indian Army, took early retirement in 1975, after which he worked with an automobile company. "Ambadas ensured both the sons graduated out of college and were married before renting out two flats and two shops in the city to fund his own expenses, after he retired from the auto firm. His younger son is an alcoholic and, after he lost his job, he and his wife took shelter with Ambadas. But, soon after, the couple started torturing the elderly duo for food and money," a Vijaynagar officer said.
On being contacted, the accused daughter-in-law dismissed Ambadas's allegations as baseless. "They got me married to their alcoholic son, now, they are accusing us of torturing them. It's all false." Tehsildar Geetanjali Shirke directed the accused to vacate the Pawar house immediately.
